Each of us are unique and beautiful. We each have talents and qualities that make us special. Every person in our lives sees us in a different light. Our parents view us differently to our siblings, who see us differently again to our friends, who then see us differently from those we work with. The biggest difference though, is how we view ourselves. Each of us are different. We are dancers, feminists, democrats, republicans, students, career women. We are from all nationalities and religions. But we are women. We have curves and things we don't like about ourselves. We are sometimes moody, and other times we can't stop smiling for no reason. We have different quirks and habits, some of which we may share. We aren't all size 8, and many of us don't want to be. I was incredibly struck by a conversation that was had on an early episode of the West Wing, in which Bartlet, Leo and Josh talk about the women in their lives, and it truly has stuck with me, because it demonstrates that people really often do see the best in us, not the worst.

Bartlet: We were talking about these women
Josh: Yeah?
Leo: We can't get over these women
Bartlet: Look at C.J (CJ is laughing and talking to Sam and Donna while holding a Polaroid) She's like a fifties movie star, so capable, so loving and energetic
Leo: Look at Mandy over there (Mandy is on the other side of the room fighting with Toby about something) Going punch for punch with Toby in a world that tells women to sit down and shut up. Mandy's already won her battle with the President. The game's over, but she's not done. She wants Toby
Bartlet: Mrs. Landingham. Did you guys know she lost two sons in Vietnam? What would make her want to serve her country is beyond me, but in 14 years she's not missed a day's work. Not one. There's Cathy, Donna and Margaret.

We are strong, independent women, and no matter how anyone else see us, we should always keep in mind that there is someone out there than thinks we are. That thinks we are beautiful. That is proud of us. That loves us. And if being a part of the livejournal community has taught me anything in the 3 years that I've been here, it is that some of the most incredible people can be found here, and that the deepest of friendships can be formed.

So on this fine Saturday morning, I open up my trusty little web browser, check my emails, and proceed to my flist. I wasn't expecting the HUGE MASSIVE OH MY GOD SPOILERS from Bones.

There is a part of me that wishes that today was April 1st. Because this sounds like a really horrible April Fools joke. It also reminds me of a mid season 8 x-files episode.

The Bones writers revealed that during season 4, Brennan decides that she wants Booth to be the father of her child!!

WHAT THE FUCK? After three seasons of Brennan being horribly awkward around children, and stating loudly to anyone who will listen that she does NOT WANT CHILDREN, she suddenly wants a child? COME ON.

And ripping off The X-Files much? Let us cast our minds back to the mind-fuck that is season 8, and there would have been a conversation between our heroes that went something like this
Scully: Mulder, I'd very much appreciate it if you used one of those videos that isn't yours to help me have a baby.
Mulder: Sure Scully.

On to more important things. Today we're celebrating two birthday. so_vieh is sharing her birthday with the beautiful Gillian Anderson. To celebrate Gillian's 40th birthday, I've dug up 40 of my favourite pictures.

Even so young she's still STUNNINGLY gorgeous. I also have a love for black and white photos.

I have no idea what magazine this shoot came out of, but it's part of her promotion for House of Mirth i'm pretty sure.

I think this one came out of People magazine in 97. Over ten years later, and I STILL want the skirt that she's wearing.

I think I would actually go insane if Gillian ever decided to go back and have a re-shoot of this. GUH.

She has THE BEST taste in shoes. I am completely head over heels (LOL PUN) for her shoes here. (this was her before being on Letterman this year)

These are live (well, live as I get them) updates that are coming from both XFN and Haven on what's going on at the LA Film Festival that is featuring a NINETY MINUTE panel with Chris Carter, Frank Spotnitz and David Duchovny.

THESE ARE ALL SPOILERY! PLEASE SKIP OVER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED!

My thoughts are in italics.

- clips shown at the panel have apparently been tapped by the wonderful Kylie at Haven. (I will link to these clips when they pop up online)

- So apparently "shippers will be happy" says FS and DD, and who are we to argue with Frank and David?

- one clip has M&S arguing like we've never seen them argue before - very angsty.

- William is not a part of the plot, but is not forgotten...interesting

- apparently David (yes, Duchovny) will have a blog...wrap your head around that!

- there are 2 new clips where Mulder is trying to ignore scully Scully she's being a skeptic because she's protesting him taking the case. Sounds like the old Scully, and Mulder sounds like he's bringing the lolz

- apparently there is time at the panel for fan questions. i'm not even going to try and guess what people will come up with after what we saw at WonderCon...

- Scully tells Mulder that even after all these years, he's still looking for his sister. OH SCULLY DON'T DO THAT. (Samatha is apparently a metaphor for something?)

- Apparently this is part of the conversation that goes on, in shortened form

    she tells him that he needs to stop trying to save his sister
    he says that she's dead
    she says that hasn't stopped him
    she looks sad, almost sorrowful
    he says he needs the FBI team back out there
    he starts to walk
    she follows, asking what he's doing (scene that we saw being filmed ages ago possibly?)
    he quips that he's trying to ignore her (is that even possible?)

- Scully: This isn't my life anymore
Mulder: [looks at her incredulously, tells FBI to keep searching]
okay, so she never went back to how things used to be (obviously) but does this mean she hasnt' been with Mulder all this time?

- DD was apparently saying something like "Mulder is at the end of the movie, more like the 1993!Mulder than ever" okay, so is mulder completely consumed by the search for lights in the sky? what about Scully?

- Panel is over quickest 90 minutes EVER

- DD brings the lolz: DD said "Xzibit pimped Chris' ride"

- Someone asked DD if he and GA ever had conflicting opinions on how the characters should be played, and DD said there are always conflicts, which makes it interesting, and that they do their own thing, and that they don't get in each others ways...interesting, at least they're not being angsty like Mulder and Scully

- apparently the angsty clips show our favourite M&S chemistry working it's magic, with people in the audience saying that the scene had them tearing up and wanting to cry...

- theories are flying that the angsty scene between GA&DD is the one that GA had so much trouble with at the start of fliming...this is actually looking like a possibility, because lets face it, GA doesn't suck at anything. The scene described where Mulder walks away and Scully follows sounds a lot like the scene that was leaked early in the year, where both of them look angry and little tiny snippet of what we could hear sounded angry and testy.

- Mulder and Scully are in the field and Mulder goes to keep looking and Scully asks him what he's doing. Mulder says searching and Scully starts to get a little peeved with him saying "It's my fault, i'm the one who brought you on this" (scully started this? that seems a little strange don't you guys think?) Mulder starts to walk away from Scully when she says this, and he says "i'm trying to ignore you" (snippy much mulder?)

- Mulder and Scully are kneeling down in the snow with Father Joe, Father Joe gets up and walks away and Mulder starts to go as well, Scully yells at him "stop! Stop, I don't want to do this anymore...it's not my job anymore" Mulder gets huffy and says "no, you're just my booking agent, right" jesus Mulder, you're supposed to be on her side She goes "no, I'm sorry I even got you into this" and they talk about how the "women issues he's having with finding these girls alive" he wants to find them Alive. i'm not really sure what to think about all of this so far. SO MUCH ANGST
They have a little convo about how he never finds the women in his life alive (meaning his sister and mother) and she goes onto to tell him Samantha is dead and he says something about that being why he wants to find these girls alive. Mulder walks off, Scully asks what he's doing and he says "i'm trying to ignore you"
okay, so just wtf is this movie about?

So I guess I wanted to extend on this post last night

Sometimes, I don't even know where I stand with myself. I mean, it's hard enough to try and figure out where I stand with everyone else in my life, friends and family.
I mean, I've always heard that growing up, finishing school is about finding yourself, and I guess in a way I've found myself over the past three years. The 20th of April marks a year. ONE YEAR since I first came out to my closest friends. I guess it's like those other big things in life, you always remember what you were doing, where you were, what day it was.

One year. A lot happens in a year, don't you think?

I did want to say more. I had a whole long speil lined up, I knew what I wanted to say, and the point that I wanted to make. I guess I wanted to say that while a lot happens in a year, I guess I'm not really happy with the place I'm in right now personally. There are some friendships that I miss, that are just beyond the point of fixing. I don't like that there are things in my life that only one other person knows, and I wish more people knew. Sometimes I think I wish that I was straight. I think that my life would be so much easier. That's not to say I WANT to be straight.
I know that people say that you're never given more than you can handle at one time, but sometimes I feel like i'm collapsing under the weight of everything. I knew before starting this school year that it would be the hardest year of my life. And it has been. It hasn't been the hardest year personally, but work load wise, I've worked harder than I ever have, and I'm surprised I haven't had a breakdown yet. I can feel one coming on though. I'm crumbling under everything. I guess that I expected to crumble at some point this year, but not so soon.

I'm wondering what happened to my old self. The happy-go-lucky girl that I used to know about two years ago. I'd really like her back. The girl who could laugh at herself. Who had solid friendships, without cracks and bullshit. The one who never cried because things were getting tough. The girl who enjoyed life. Wherever she's gone, I don't think she's coming back. Instead, I've got a girl who can sit at the computer at 8pm on a Tuesday night crying for no reason. Who can sit in her room alone and listen to her parents fighting and burst into tears. Who doesn't know a damn thing about what she's doing.

I guess I'm just waiting for someone to save me.

The process was exhausting for her. Sitting in waiting rooms, in doctors offices, with her legs up in those unflattering stirrups. She didn’t know how he felt about the whole thing. She’d gone through months and months of procedures, none of them taking, but they kept on trying. Finally, after so long, she’d managed to fall pregnant. But he had no idea. How should he know? He wasn’t even here. Four months, He was gone four months, and she endured those first four months without him. She still doesn’t quite know how she did it.

It doesn’t matter now, because he’s the one who sits in that chair next to her, while the doctor squeezes that stupid cold gel on her stomach, and they get to look at their child. His face lights up in awe the first time he sees their child moving around on the fuzzy black and white screen, and as soon as they arrive in her apartment, he puts it on the fridge. She knows that it’s not so that she can see it all the time, it’s so that every time HE walks to the fridge, he can be reminded of their little miracle.
He’s started staying over more than he doesn’t now, and she’s decided that she kind of doesn’t mind, because she kind of likes someone else sharing her space, eating her food.

It wasn’t until she was 6 months pregnant that she started to hate having him around. Not because she didn’t like him, but because she was so damn horny that she couldn’t stand having him in a ten mile radius of her. So one night, as they were going through a baby name book, that her mother had given her, she finally snapped.
Mulder looked up when she didn’t approve or disapprove of a name he had suggested
“Scully, are you okay?” Oh you poor sod, she thought
“No, no Mulder, I’m not, because you see the thing is, I’m as horny as hell, and I kinda love you” she’d blurted it all out before she even really thought about it.
“Oh Scully” he laughed, flashing her a grin that had been so recent that she’d forgotten what sullen!mulder looked like. “I guess that I kinda love you too”
His kiss was warm and inviting at first, but she was hungry for more, and deepened it.
“Mulder make love to me” she whispered to him, and he promptly swept her up off the couch and carried her to the bedroom
“Hey Scully, you know that your hair smells like strawberries?” He smiled as he walked with her to the bedroom
She smiled and laughed.
“yes mulder, yes I know it does”

I never thought of Scully as a lesbian, and I still don't, but this story poses interesting questions about her sexuality, and how Scully would deal with situations if she had someone other than Mulder in her life.
Again, this is a series of stories, 18 of them to be precise in just the Gensis series, but there are several vignettes that I would recommend that are tagged onto the series, all of which can be found at Radclyffe's profile HERE

I wanted to get everyone's opinion on something. I'm not sure how many of you are into, or like poetry at all, but we have to study it this term in English, and I'm stuck in between two poems for my next assignment. They're Ozymandias , written by Percy Bysshe Shelley, and Porphyria's Lover , written by Robert Browning. The context of the assignment is that we have to write a speech on how the poem is relevant to the modern society, and while both poems are, I'm just not sure which would be the better to choose. HELP ME FLIST!

I'm going for my Learner's on Thursday afternoon. *bites nails* I hope I get it first time, but I'm not going to get my hopes up really high. I know what I'm doing, but there is always the off chance that I screw it up.

HIHIHIHIHI BBS. I'M FINALLY HOME. and going on a little mini hiatus over the weekend. I'll probs update again tomorrow, MAYBE with some of the highlight photos from my trip. I'll give a short run down of my entire trip. which I hope shouldn't be very long

We arrived in Hanoi at 1am, and delightfully got told that one of our hotel rooms had been booked over, but would be ready the next day, so they would put me and my sister in a hotel a couple of km's down the road, and my mum and dad could stay in the one we were already at. This did not make anyone a happy panda at all. We all moved to the other hotel, because my mum and dad didn't want to separate us. The beds sucked and the room was way to big for what was in it. I felt disgusting, a mixture of still being a little sick, and being homesick. We were all rudely awoken at 5am by the sound of beeping car, or as I would learn, MOTORBIKE horns. For anyone who's ever been to a major city in Vietnam, you'll know what I mean when I say that the beeping NEVER stops, and that there are more motorbikes in any city than there are people.
We're staying in what's known as the Old Quater of the city, which is technically the Old Third, because there are only three parts of the city, but quater sounds cooler. You can walk from street to street and meander into any shop that takes your fancy, or into a shop that doesn't have someone screaming "MISS. YOU BUY MY THINGS"
The streets in the Old Quater are very nicely named. Whoever it was that named them, was a very smart person. Each street is named according to what is sold down that particular street. It's pretty neat, and makes it easy to find stuff. Replicas of almost any big brand can be found, and you can get some authentic last season stock as well. My sister and I both scored authentic Chanel wallets for $23 each. Just down the road, I spotted a beautiful Burberry overnight bag, which my mum and I barttered down from $50 to $20, quite a good effort if I say so myself.
Battering is expected of everyone in Vietnam for just about everything bar food. We even bartterd the price of bottled water. Hanoi has quite a good reputation for it's icecream. And I can proudly say that the gelati in Hanoi is ALMOST as good as the gelati I had while I was in Italy. The city is far more beautiful at night than it is during the day, and while sitting at one of the resturants on the side of the lake, you could see the light of the city as if the sun was setting.
We were originally going to from Hanoi to Halong Bay to stay on a traditional Vietnamese boat called a Junk (and they are far from pieces of junk) but due to a wonderfull little typhoon (which we later found out had sunk FOURNTEEN boats on the bay) we could only do a day trip. If anyone has ever been to Phuket, and seen Phi Phi island and all of the islands surrounding it, Halong Bay looks strikingly familiar. There are little floating villages all around the bay, and it makes me wonder how people can live a life like that, basically cut off from everything but the magnificant islands around them. We had a wonderful seafood buffet with fresh crab and fish for lunch, and stopped for a swim in the bay. We had stopped right near what appeared to be a footy tour, and all of the guys were jumping from the top of their boat, and everyone on our boat (85% who were Aussie, the others were Kiwi) decided that the blokes on the other boat must be from Australia, so we all go AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE, OI OI OI, and about a minute later, we're greated with all of the guys on the other boat, standing on the upper platform, DOING THE HAKKA. It was so awesome, and everyone got a great kick out of it
From Hanoi, we flew a little south to a city called Hue, which is very cultral, we only had a day and a half here, and on our only full day, we took a personalised dragonboat tour down the river and stopped at all the temples built by kings, and at the massive, massive old Citadel which was built for the Kings of the time, and his wives and concubines, of which there were HUNDREDS (that guy must have been a sex addict)
From Hue, we drove to Hoi An, which is only and 1.30 hour trip. It was raining when we left Hue, and it was still raining when we arrived in Hoi An, and it didn't stop until the day we left. Lucky us had come across ANOTHER typhoon. This one worse than our last encounter. We had lunch in the city centre a couple of hours after we had arrived, and met a family from Melbourne, who showed us a place to have good clothes tailored. It was still pouring down with rain, and we were all wearing those pathetic ponchos that basically do nothing to keep you dry. We walked around town more, looking for other places to get stuff tailored, and a place to get my formal dress made. We finally ended up at a place that is recommended in the Lonely Planet Guide, and it was getting late at this point, so we got a taxi back to the hotel. It was raining harder the next morning, so we used the hotel umbrellas and our ponchos and kept dry. We went back to the tailoring place, and I got fitted for my formal dress and picked out my material and colour. I decided on deep red, almost burgandy satin. I also got a floaty sort of halter top made, two summer dresses and a floaty skirt. Mum and Dad both got a suit made, and my sister got three dresses and some shorts made. We had a free half day in the morning to lounge around the hotel on the morning we were leaving for Saigon, and because of the heat, I stayed mostly in my hotel room and had a bit of a sleep and caught up with the news on CNN. Our flight from Hoi An to Saigon was uneventful. Saigon is a MASSIVE city, and looks a lot like Bangkok, and is much nicer than Hanoi. The only thing that we had planned to do in Hanoi was a full day tour of the city, including going to the Chu Chi Tunnles, which were used by a village of Vietnamese people during the Vietnam War. We visited the war museum which is in the city, and there are a lot of horrible pictures and details about the war, what Agent Orange and other chemicals and explosives did to people, and as I expected, it was all VERY biased towards the Vietnamese side, and my dad kept pointing out that what they did to the Americans was no better. Only me and my dad went down into the tunnels which are about 70cm wide and not even a metre high. It's certainly not for the calustrophobic.
From Saigon, we fly internationally to Siem Reap in Cambodia. We have a few hours at our hotel before a half day tour out to Angkor Wat. The temples are just amazing. The architecture is phenominal. There was no cement used to hold anything up. The rooves of the temples were designed so that each block leant against another and they all held the other up. Money is being put in by several countries to go towards the restoration of the temples, and the last one should be finished by 2011. The next morning we had a pre-dawn start so that we could see the sun rise over Angkor Wat, which was beautiful. It had rained the night before, and there was still a bit of cloud cover, which made it even more beautiful. We spent the whole day touring around the temples, and I even got to ride and elephant from the entrance of the temples to one of the main temples itself. The whole experience of the temples, and seeing one of the 7 wonders of the world is amazing and something that everyone should try and do at least once in their lives.
On our final day, we had the whole day to veg out around the hotel, so I took the chance to have a swim in the pool and just enjoy relaxing. We flew from Siem Reap back to Saigon, where we had a two hour wait for hour flight to Sydney, which was delayed about half an hour due to a pretty awesome storm. The flight was 8-9 hours, and I was the unfortunate person who got stuck sitting in the middle, next to my sister, and some Vietnamese lady with really long hair that she kept flicking in my face, and I often get an elbow in the side, or no armrest at all because she had no concept of personal space, which is highly valued in the Economy Class of an airplane. It was a wonderful feeling to land in Sydney, and as we landed, I just got a really sense of being home, even though home was an hour north of where I was by plane. Going through Customs cracks me up, because of all the Asians that the poor customs guys have to deal with, who have NO IDEA what to do, even when they're directed to the exact place they need to be. We had an 1.30 hour wait in Sydney airport until our flight to Brisbane, and I took advantage of it to have a GOOD coffee, that didn't taste or look like mud. I read an Australian newspaper and tried to catch up on two weeks worth of Australian news while waiting for our flight. As we flew over Sydney, I asked Dad, who was born and raised in Syndey if he knew what direction your suburb was in Krys, but he was too disorientated to know :P
Landing in Brisbane was the best feeling, knowing that I was almost home, and walking in our front door was awesome. My gran had been looking after our house, and she was already there. From the time we got home, it took us under three hours to have four suitcases completely empty, and a load of washing already done.
I went back to school this morning, and got mobbed as I was walking up the drive way. It was really nice to see everyone again, and I only really realised how much I missed them until lunch time, when it was back to sus jokes and sus comments and pissing myself laughing in Modern History that I loved being home more than anything.
I also took this trip as something to get away from things, and to think about life. I realised, and much to my dismay, I don't know how I feel about this, that I'm finally over that person that I was in love with, who shall remain nameless. I always knew that my love for her as a friend was far more important than my romantic love for her, and that I know she's happy with her boyfriend now is the only thing that I could ask for. I also realised that I take far too many people for granted. Especially those people who try so hard to understand why I do and say the things I do. I don't appreciate people as much as I should.

Now for the good news, I'll be away from tomorrow until Sunday afternoon at a Youth UN Conference at the Coast with Lily, Gemma and Andra, so I'll update about my weekend on Sunday night.

I'm in Siam Reap right now, which as you may have guessed is in Cambodia (yes lily, i'll take a gazillionty pictures for you) We're heading off to Angkor Wat in about an hour to have a little tour and watch the sun set over it in a tethered balloon which rises 250m off the ground. Tomorrow we have a pre-dawn start and we're back at Angkor Wat for a full day tour. THEN on Tuesday we have a free day until about 4pm when we get picked up to go back to the airport

Saigon is the most awesomesauce place I've been to on my trip so far, it's like the Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne CBD's all in one. It's busy, loud and never seems to stop. And I've done HEAPS more shopping here. I've bought myself another wallet, this time D&G, a Gucci handbag, Omega watch (which is sooooo awesome IL it so much) AND OMFG. I GOT ALL NINE SEASONS OF THE X-FILES. FOR $AU20. BUT. Apparently (much to my dismay) Hairspray is too new of a movie to buy yet D=
I'm off to Cambodia REALLY early tomorrow morning, and then I'll be back home. To Lily, I will be at school on Friday as well as Thursday arvo. It's sooooooooo hot here, which I have been hearing is not that different from back home.

HIHIHI BB'S! It's still raining like nothing else here, and we're apparently looking forward to getting the really heavy rain of the outskirts of a typhoon later on tonight.
In other exciting news, I got measured and fitted for my formal dress today, which is going to be a deep red. It's a complicated dress to try and explain, so when it's all done, I'll take photos and you can see what it's like. I also went back and had a second fitting for my other summer dresses and they were both perfect, so I now have those, and we're going back into town later to have another fitting for shoes, and a floaty singlet type top that I'm also having made. I saw some pretty odd stuff at the markets this morning. You can actually buy dead king cobras that have been stuffed into bottles. They look really creapy. And you can also buy dried seahorse and dried snake. We didn't have the camera today because it was WAY too wet, so I couldn't get photos *cries*
I still miss home, and I am reading all of your LJ's and I often see things and think "that reminds me of ....." especially when looking through DVD shops.
I think I should start counting down the days until I come home. As of today, it's 9

AND AND AND. THIS IS SO AWESOME. THE CAN TAILOR MAKE YOU ANYTHING YOU FREAKING WANT. I GOT FITTED FOR TWO REALLY CUTE SUMMER DRESSES THIS AFTERNOON, AND THE SHOP NEXT DOOR MAKES SHOES TO FIT. AND I'M GETTING THE CUTEST PAIR OF BLACK ROUND TOE HEELS MADE. ♥♥♥

I promise that I'll try and be around a little more, I have two full days here in Hoi An, and then we're off to Saigon, and then from Saigon, we're going to Angor Wat in Cambodia which is the LAST LEG of our trip, and then we fly from Angor Wat to Saigon and then from Saigon back to Sydney and Sydney back to Brisbane. (FYI RL FRIENDS, I get to the airport at 12:35pm on Wednesday October 10, and I'll probs come to school the next day at about lunch time maybe with all of your presents if I like you that much then)

I've been so horrible about updating with my trip info! So here is what hopes to be a long one

I don't think I've ever stayed in a city where I've had to move hotels THREE TIMES, granted this hotel is much, much nicer than the other one's that we've stayed at.
WEDNESDAY: We moved hotels again on wednesday morning just before lunch. After we'd chucked all of the stuff in the rooms, we had lunch, and walked around what's known as the "Old Quater", now, thre is a funny story behind the different quaters of the city, because there are only three different quaters in Hanoi, the Old Quater, French Quater and New Quater. Our other two hotels were in the Old Quater, and a lot of the shopping is in the Old Quater, and they organise their streets as to what is sold there. There is a street for EVERYTHING, you want a bag, there is a street for bags, you want a hat, there is a street for hats. It's AMAZING. I bought myself a cute pair of red polka dot flat shoes today, and THIRTY DVDS, because they're trufax cheap here. When I get back to Australia, and have a little more time, I'll type up a list of what we bought here. There's so much to buy here that it's just phenomonal. I bought an authentic Chanel wallet for $20 Australian dollars, and a large Burberry overnight bag for just a little more. The only thing that's hard to buy here is really nice shoes and clothes, because they cater more for Asian people than Westerners. Apparenly Ho Chi Mihn caters more for tourists, so I'll be doing my clothes shopping there
THURSDAY: We were supposed to go to Halong Bay yesterday and stay overnight on a Junk, but because of bad weather, the trip was canceled, and instead we're doing a day trip to to the bay today. It's a three hour trip in a car to the bay, and we were with a group of Australians, and a couple of NZ'ers all of who were very nice. The bay is much like the streets, crowded with horns going off everywhere and no order. As soon as we got out of the harbor, we were treated to a gorgeous seafood buffet. The bay is very much like the islands off Phuket, but the one thing I noticed is that the water is much clearer in Phuket than Halong Bay. We stayed on the bay for a couple of hours, and then were heading back into Hanoi. We didn't get back to the Hotel until after 7 after what seemed like an even longer bus ride back.
FRIDAY: We visted the Presidental palace, Ho Chi Mihn musem and the army musem this morning, and there is so much interesting History in the buildings. The Presidental Palace is beautiful, and the buildings where Ho Chi Mihn stayed and worked during the war are so well preserved, they look new. The Ho Chi Mihn musem is full of primary source material like letters and photos, and at the Army Musem they have old American fighter jets and hellicopters. There is even the wreckage of an old American Fighter plane that's been kind of put back together. After lunch, we were back to shopping, and we bough about 40 more DVDS. Mum, Anita and I all bought new sunnies, and we eventually made a full circle back to our hotel.
We don't stop for very long to take breaks, because there's no time for it. We're off to Hue tomorrow, where the tailoring is apparently very good, so I'll try and update a litle more often.

plane trips and hanoi

Hi guys
I'm finally in Hanoi, and it's 4:30pm in Vietnam, which makes it 7:30pm in Brisbane.
My day yesterday was horrible. The Brisbane to Sydney, Sydney to Saigon legs of the trip were fine. Once we landed in Saigon, things got bad. We discovered that our flight had been delayed FIVE HOURS. We were due to arrive in Hanoi by 8pm, instead, we arrived at MIDNIGHT. When we got to our hotel, it was just past 1am. This is where it gets worse. The guy who owns the hotel told us there had been a problem with the electrical system on the floor we were staying on, so we were being moved TO ANOTHER HOTEL. This did not make my family happy at all. I was already on the verge of tears, and very, very tired. I should tell you that 1am in Vietnam is 4am in Brisbane, so I had been travelling for OVER TWENTY FOUR HOURS. When we finally got to our "new" hotel, I just got straight into bed. I ended up silently crying myself to sleep, wondering why I had even decided to come on this trip in the first place. I was woken in the morning by beeping car, or moterbike horns. IT NEVER STOPS. Everyone beeps their horn at everyone, there are no road rules, no nothing concerning road safety.
We walked around the city today, and I bought myself a nice big Burberry overnight bag and a pair of cute red polka dot flats. Tomorrow we hope to be off to Halong Bay, where we'll be staying on a boat.
I miss you guys heaps, and to my flist, I'm so sorry that I won't be able to commet on your entries, but I am reading them.
I'll try and talk to whoever I can on MSN at any time.
(FYI, the time difference is three hours, so when it's 9am here in Vietnam, it's midday in Brisbane)

I was tired like nothing else at the post, and all we did was lie around on Sarah's folded out futons making sus jokes and counting ovens (yes, we are very strange) But in this case, ovens don't actually mean ovens that you bake in. They were a metaphor for two of our friends who aren't dating, but flirt so outragiously every time they are together that we count their "moments" at every party/outing. I lost count of ovens at I think, 17.
We listened to like, that Lazy Sunday type music, and everyone was all calm and winding down. It was awesomely awesome fun. Although, by the end of the night, I felt like someone was sticking pins into the balls of my feet from jumping around in my shoes. The price of fashion.

14 things you should know about having a gay/lesbian friend

Ok, so this is inspired by lacri_mosa 's 30 Do's and Dont's of Self Harmers, except this one is 14 Things You Should Know About Having A Gay/Lesbian Friend (I couldn't round it to 10 or 15, although I'm close to 15 witht the help of some other people)

1. If he/she tells you that you're the only person who knows, and wants to keep it between just you and that person, don't tell your best friend, mum, dad, sister, brother. They won't appreciate it when somebody else comes up to them and asks them "are you really *insert sexuality here*?"

2. Just because he/she is attracted to the same sex, does not mean that they are attracted to every person they lay their eyes on.

3. Being affectionate does not equal coming on to you

4. Remember that it's taken this person a lot of courage to make this decision and tell you. It's taken even more to tell that to themselves. They understand that it takes time to sort through what this means

5. If you're being introduced to the boy/girlfriend for the first time, act the same way you would as if they had an opposite sex partner. Nothing is more offensive than your best friends not being able to be with you in public because of your choice of partner

6. Being gay gives them the right to make jokes about it, and they only will when they're comfortable with it. Until then, you are not allowed to.

7. There are a lot of days where this person will hate themselves for being this way. If you ask them if they're okay, and they say anything along the lines of "I'm fine" they're not telling the truth. Don't press them about it though. If they want to tell you what's wrong, they will, and not telling is NOT a sign that they don't trust you with their problems or concerns

8. Ask questions about their sexuality, something you're intrigued about, something you don't understand. It helps them understand more about themselves, and it helps you to see where they're coming from as well. Just because you ask a question doesn't always mean you're going to get an answer, because they may not know themselves.

9. Their family is usually the last people they tell. Be aware of this when you're around their family, and watch what you say, because chances are, if you spill while you're at their house, you won't be very liked for a while

10. Don't change the way you act around this person. One of the most noticable things after coming out is your change of attitude towards them. If you used to hug them every morning, keeping doing it. Stopping that means that you're uncomfortable with who they are, and that you don't accept them

11. There are often times they will want to fangirl/boy over their newest/hottest/best celebrity crush. Just sit their and listen to them. They probably realise that you don't give a flying fuck about the person their talking about, but the fact that you're listening makes them feel better. She'll want to tell you that so and so is a great actress, and by the way, her boobs are AMAZING, or he wants to tell you that someone looks good in his new movie, and his ass is GREAT. Just smile, and they'll listen to you fangirl/boy over your latest crush, or what you and your boy/girlfriend did on the weekend.

12. If you're uncomfortable around gays or lesbians, don't make a big fuss over it. keep your opinion to yourself, and if it's that bad, don't make a big deal out of it in front of other people, especially their friends. Pull them aside and tell them "could you not, you know, kiss your boy/girlfriend in front of me beacuse it makes me uncomfortable" If they are truely your friend, they'll respect your wishes, just as you respect theirs

13. Being gay or lesbian is NOT a disease. You will not catch it.

14. Gays and lesbians aren't trying to start an army and 'recruit' others into being gay or lesbian.

Ok, if you've finished Deathly Hallows, and/or want to be spoiled to teh max, please, continue reading.
I really paced myself with this book. I stopped everytime I had a thought or question and wrote it down according to chapter, and I think that makes reading it a better experience because I can go back and remember what my original thoughts were, and how they change over the course of the book, so here is my Chapter by Chapter summery/questions/thoughts of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Chapter 1: The Dark Lord Ascending
- Starting another book with Snape, which to me says that he's going to be trufax important later on
- Why would JK chose Snape to be with Yaxley? How important will Yaxley be later on if at all?
- LOL Albino peacock, and I didn't even have to think "where are we?" I knew it was the Malfoy Manor
- Why is Voldemort hiding out at the Malfoy Manor? What's there that makes it safter than anywhere else?
- My first thought about the levitating body above the table is that it was Draco, and he was being punished for not being able to complete his task
- AWWWW. Remus and Tonks got married *smiles*
- After all these years, we finally find out who the Muggle Studies teacher is, and I feel angry at what Voldemort does to her, and even angrier when he kills her and feeds her dead body to Nagini

Chapter 2: In Memoriam
- My first thought makes me laugh, because I stupidly think "Who are we mourning?" *facepalm* Dumbledore
- Harry FINALLY realises how lacking some of his magical ability is
- I KNEW we'd see Sirius' mirror again. How important to the story is it going to be?
- Harry's not going back to Hogwarts. YES. I WAS RIGHT FTW.
- How much background is Jo going to give us on Dumbledore? How important is Dumbledore going to be to the plot line? Why give us all this information about him as a student, and about his family?
- My hate for Rita Skeeter just shot up. Might sit above my hate for Voldemort now.
- What is that flash of blue that Harry sees?

Chapter 3: The Dursleys Departing
- The Order is hiding the Dursleys?
- Why would Voldemort WANT the Dursleys?, surely they don't know anything of importance!
- Did that Dementor attack in OotP finally knock some common sense into Dudley?!
- Does Petunia know something?
- I loved seeing Dudley say thank you to Harry. It was a great unexpected moment

Chapter 4: The Seven Potters
- My first thought is that we're going to get some insight into Harry's background
- HIGHNLHKLKLDJGKFL:AAJK"FJDSK:LJFSKDL: SIRIUS' BIKE FTW
- Lupin/Tonks makes me smiley. It's so cute (lol I'm such a shipper)
- Why didn't we know before that the Polyjuice potion changes in accordance to who you're changing into? I think that's really cool
- LOL SEVEN POTTERS LITERALLY MEANS SEVEN HARRY POTTERS.
- The whole, everyone turning into Harry thing makes me laugh. Did anyone else not the sizeable amount of penis metaphors?
- YAY! We get to see the Burrow again!
- NO! ILY HEDWIG. *CRIES* I did actually cry here. I felt so stupid

Chapter 5: Fallen Warrior
- HAGRID! ILY DON't DIE!
- *sigh of relief* Hagrid doesn't die
- oh noes! Georges ear! LOL. Trust Fred and George to be able to make a joke out of that
- LOL Expelliarmus is Harry's signature spell. Movies much?
- This is such a Ron/Hermione shipper book.
- *cries* MAD-EYE! ILY! I cried here to, because I cry when anyone dies
- The return of Emo! and Angry! Harry for a while
- Ollivander WAS taken by Voldemort, but what for?

Chapter 6: The Ghoul in Pyjamas
- It's set in stone now that Harry, Ron and Hermione aren't going back to Hogwarts for their 7th year, and I'm glad.
- YAY! Wedding plans!
- Harry/Ginny tension is so sexual. lol
- I had a little squee here because Australia got a mention, and that squee very quickly turned to tears in my eyes as Hermione told Ron and Harry what she had to do to her parents. I don't think I could have done it.
- What is at Godric's Hollow apart from Lily and James' graves? How important will Godric's Hollow be?
- Horcruxes can repair themselves! This makes everything a whole lot harder
- LOL Ginny is ttly jealous of Gabrielle

Chapter 7: The Will of Albus Dumbledore
- =0 What did Dumbledore leave to Harry, Ron and Hermione?
- Who is this Gregorovitch that that Harry is seeing?
- Ron's present to Harry. That's such a guy thing
- \o/ Ginny and Harry were totally going to do it if Ron and Hermione hadn't walked in on them
- LOL. Norbet is a girl
- Why did Ron get given the deluminatior? How important will it be?
- How important is that book? What does it contain?
- I was interested by the little background info we got into the Snitch, and I think it's cool that Harry got this one
- That moleskin pouch is really cool, but I wanted to know if it was one of those things that LOOK small, but are enchanted to be really big on the inside, or is just big

Chapter 8: The Wedding
- Viktor appears again. Ron jealous much?
- That triangluar spin on the spin of the book is Grindelwald's symbol?!?!?!?!?!
- Gregorovitch is a wand maker, who we've heard of before in GoF
- Dumbledore's sister was a squib?!
- How important will Bathilda Bagshot be to the story line?
- Scrimgeour dead! The Ministry fallen!

Chapter 9: A Place To Hide
- IL Hermione right about now. That handbag idea is so awesome
- Death Eaters = Hate for me.
- Harry's possesion freaks me out

Chapter 10: Kreacher's Tale
- AHA! This is why Jo wanted Kreacher in the OotP movie, because HE'S the character that was important in DH
- I felt really sad for Harry when he woke up and thought that Ron and Hermione had fallen asleep holding hand and he felt lonely.
- Ron/Hermione is still cute
- Sirius' room. Teenage boy much? I laughed at the playboy-esque pictures that Harry mentioned
- I felt like crying when Harry was reading that letter from his mum. And that picture, in my head looks so cute
- Another mention of Bathilda
- What does the rest of Lily's letter say?
- AHA! R.A.B IS REGULUS BLACK. EVERYONE IN THE FANDOM WAS SO RIGHT
- Kreacher worked for Voldemort?
- I loved the story about how the lockets go switched
- R.A.B is actually dead.

Chapter 11: The Bribe
- Voldemorts got control over the Ministry and the Prophet. My first thought is how similar this is to Hitler's reign
- Harry is wanted for questioning on Dumbledore. Why?
- I'm really quite disgusted at the Muggle-Born register, and the theory that they must have 'stolen' their magic
- Voldemort has power at Hogwarts as well! OH NOES
- Lupin wants to go with the Trio
- AWWWWW. Tonks is pregnant!
- Lupin being regretful makes me a sad panda
- Harry gets nasty at Lupin, perhaps about the guilt of his own parents deaths
- We see the number 7 again, the age at which magical powers appear in children
- Mundungus gave the locket to UMBRIDGE!
- My first stupid thought about Harry's scar that was caused by Umbridge's quill is that it's a tracking thing, but then I realised how stupid that sounds

Chapter 12: Magic is Might
- Why the sudden change in Kreacher? The locket maybe?
- SNAPE IS HEADMASTER OF HOGWARTS. WTF?

Chapter 13: The Muggle-Born Registration Commission
- Umbridge has Moody's magical eye! and she's also head of the Muggle-Born Reistration Commission
- This whole chapter actually makes me a little sick, because of the really obvious parallels between Voldemorts reign and Hitlers reign

Chater 14: The Theif
- They land in the ground where the Quidditch World Cup was
- Hermione's bag is still awesome
- Why does Voldemort want Gregorovitch
- Who is the theif that looks so familiar to Harry?

Chapter 15: The Goblin's Revenge
- Albania? What's so important to Voldemort there?
- Why are they all so cautious about saying his name? What effect does it have?
- Why would Ginny want the Gryffindor sword, and if it's a fake, could the real one be a Horcrux?
- Dumbledore cracked the ring with the real Gryffindor sword, then made a copy so the real one could be used on the locket. That makes so much more sense
- WHAT THE FUCK IS UP RON'S ARSE. STUPID GIT. I felt so sorry for Hermione, because she's so in love with him, and then he just walks out because he thinks that she's chosing Harry over him.

Chapter 16: Godric's Hollow
- I thought it was really sweet that Harry misses Ginny.
- That triangular symbol appears again in Hermione's book from Dumbledore
- YES! I WAS SO RIGHT. GRYFFINDOR DID COME FROM GODRIC'S HOLLOW, BECAUSE THE DAMN PLACE IS NAMED AFTER HIM.
- Does Bathilda have the sword?
- LOL at Harry and Hermione
- Harry finally sees his parents graves. I wanted to cry

Chapter 17: Bathilda's Secret
- The Potter's House. I love the sign, and that it's got graffiti on it. That made me smile
- How and why is Bathilda like she is.
- OH SNAP. BATHILDA IS NAGINI.
- I loved seeing the scene relplayed from the night Harry's parents died.
- Harry's wand breaks. *cries*

Chapter 18: The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore

- Was Dumbledore the one to blame for Grindelwald's rise in power?

overall, I was so happy with this book. She managed to put so much in such a short space of time and it was AMAZING. The Epilogue could have been a little less fanficcy, but hey, at least it's something. I hope everyone else enjoyed reading it as much as I did.
